Enriching Your Las Vegas Marketing Mix is a Must

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Las Vegas businesses, here’s the lowdown… advertisement is simply not marketing, it is only a PART of marketing. It’s like saying you want to have a rich market, but you don’t want to market to you client base. Forget about online marketing, web marketing, a sound corporate identity. You don’t need ‘em?

So wrong. Same is true for revenue generation… if done in your own bubble, none of these valuable strategies and tactics will get the results you’re looking for. For your Las Vegas professional services, where your relationship with your target Las Vegas audience evolves and solidifies based on their trust for you - it is all about layering your “marketing touch” in a way that builds trust solidly over time. You will scare potential clients with too much too soon!

You, as a Las Vegas business owner, have to know which strategies to use and when, based on clearly defined objectives. Each and every marketing strategy has a different and unique purpose. Here’s an overview to making sound choices.

Advertising your Las Vegas business means getting the word out to potential clients about your company through paid advertising which includes ads or commercials in the Las Vegas media, including potentially print, radio, television and internet. You should consider advertising to:

  • establish awareness for your company’s products and services
  • heighten interest in the marketplace
  • educate potential customers
  • influence perceptions customers may have about your business

With that said, advertising can be fairly costly, but if you do it correctly and with a marketing perspective in mind and a fair budget it can indeed be effective and produce results.

Public Relations or PR is getting the word about your business products and service through the press, including articles, interview and newsworthy stories. As a business, you should use Public Relations to:

  • build credibility and trust for your Las Vegas business
  • move up a level in the eyes of your target audience and clients
  • create a buzz
  • get free attention

Getting good publicity requires a What’s In It For Me (WIIFM) messaging, so you have to pass the “who cares about my Las Vegas business” test each and every time. If you release a PR new item, for example, with “My Las Vegas business is proud to announce the…,” you’re going to end up dead in the water! Good relationships building with the local press is essential.

To promote your business equals getting the word out through articles, blog articles and email newsletters that you write and that potential customers will VALUE. These types of communications give you publicity and allow you to get enough visibility to become a speaker, a sponsor, will allow you to join committees and help you promote to:

  • entice your target audience to consider your company’s products/service
  • invite your audience to an a real time or online event or seminar
  • introduce a new offer your business is promoting
  • meet a short-term objective like a monthly sales goal
  • test new ideas about what your clients are looking for
  •  invite interaction with you and your company

Promotions are one of the most effective ways for professional businesses to build trust with customers in the vast marketplace. The options in your promotional tool kit is both vast and can be cost-effective. Get a basic plan of both online/offline promotional strategies and tactics in place you will be in pretty good shape.

As a professional business owner, you will have to make critical choices for each and every strategy you undertake…. online, offline, etc. Here are some rules of thumb to help guide you:

  • utilize the WIIFM factor always
  • unless you have the backing of a fat marketing budget, promotion and PR tend to be your wisest and smartest investments for ROI
  • online marketing and promotion is in general more cost-effective than print media
  • permission-based marketing is a always a must

If you want your business to build awareness, interest, and credibility, you really will need all three strategies: advertising, PR and promotions as par of your marketing mix.

Professional Las Vegas Blog Design and Content Essentials

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Successful marketing techniques are crucial to any Las Vegas business. This is especially true when it comes to internet marketing. Hiring a Las Vegas company like Perkolate to handle marketing concerns can prove to be very beneficial, this is why it is so important to make sure that you have hired the right company. Marketing can not only be hard work but can be quite strategic, not all internet marketing companies may be proficient.

When marketing on the internet, blogs and articles can be very effective in getting the word out. However, utilizing the proper tags and maintaining the appropriate content can be quite perplexing to the most business savvy individual. Some companies may simply make use of “filler” content, which provides no real substance. This makes marketing strategies ineffective and wasteful. Not only should the company provide relevant content, but it should not read as a paid ad.

In addition, content should always be professional. Grammatical and spelling errors should not be present. A reliable company will ensure that the grammar and spelling is always accurate. Information should be factual and geared toward the appropriate audience. These mistakes may seem minor but may prove detrimental when it comes to marketing techniques that involve blogging, aritcle writing, or otherwise posting information on the internet.

Making use of the proper tags is also another frequent error. If the information isn’t searchable, your business is not getting out there. Search tags should be frequently assesed for popularity, age group, and several other criteria. Many other companies may simply attach a few tags and assume their work is done. Maintaining and updating tags assists in extending the life of the material and can make a significant difference.

Blogging and article writing is an excellent marketing strategy, it’s a proven way to get maximum returns on your investment. However, it does require a lot of time and know how. If and when deciding to hire someone to do this for you, make sure the services offer professional quality content. Blog design and content is an expertise and should not be left to just anyone. The future of your business may depend on it.

What is SEM or Search Engine Marketing?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

The internet age as you’re already aware has truly arrived in Las Vegas. With millions of new users going onto the internet every year, the web has become a powerful media outlet and promotions tool for your Las Vegas business. Businesses are using online advertising in a big way and this is evidenced by the steep increase in internet marketing advertising dollars spent since the year 2002.

The rapid increase in the number of websites online has prompted the creation of search engines to help people find information easily. These search engines have started started programs like pay per click and paid advertisements on for their search results.

Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of internet advertising used to market websites that successfully taps the never ending demand for seeking information and your company’s products and services. The various SEM methods include search engine optimization (SEO), paid placement and paid inclusion programs like google AdWords. With more than three quarters of advertisers vouching for it, SEO is still the most common form of SEM.

To advertise online, it takes a strategy, but not the hiring of a marketing agency in particular - you just have to have the know how and the interest in starting your own online SEM marketing campaign. The text ads that are a sponsored in google listing let’s say, are visible when users perform a search epitomize search marketing campaigns. Marketers buy the rights for relevant ads and pre-chose keywords and key phrases to be placed when the users type in certain search terms.

Marketers were initially hesitant to invest in search engine marketing.  However, that feeling has changed over the past couple of years in the business world and a majority of senior executives consider SEM a critical component in their marketing strategy. The spending on SEM programs is predicted to increase in the future years driven by rising keyword prices, advertising space demand, and the fact that small businesses are running online marketing campaigns using keywords.

OgilvyOne Worldwide, a part of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide is coming to this field in a big way by starting a new unit dedicated to search marketing, NeoSearch@Ogilvy. Marketing teams of all businesses have a tough job on setting their budget especially when it comes to proving a return on investment. The success of search engine marketing is attributed to the fact that advertisers pay ONLY when a user clicks on an ad.

SEM is also a controversial medium, as a series of studies and reports conducted by Consumers Reports WebWatch has targeted it. The pay per click model, though efficient, is vulnerable to click through fraud. Fake clicks from anonymous sources (or competitors) that have no intention of purchasing but done so for dubious reasons increase the ad spending of business without generating sufficient revenue from sales. The big players in the SEM field, Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter are taking major efforts to incorporate more transparency in the search engines and to prevent such fraudulent activities in this fast growing advertising medium which is predicted to overtake traditional means of advertising like television.

If you are a law firm, legal firm, or attorney in Las Vegas and you are looking for marketing and branding advice and tips, Perkolate has compiled information in order to help you make an informed decision on how to choose the right marketing firm to assist you or how to do-it-yourself.

First, you should analyze your current marketing efforts. Here are questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you currently have a marketing plan and marketing strategy in place?
  • Do you have professional marketing materials developed?
    • Professional logo consistently used across all of your marketing materials?
    • A professional website to reach the Las Vegas market that includes a Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy?
    • A brochure that includes an overview of your services and is written in a way to persuade potential clients to take the next step of contacting you for a consultation?
    • Professional business cards, letterhead, envelopes and labels.
    • A professionally designed Powerpoint template for presentation purposes.
  • Why do you stand out above your local competition or national competition?
  • What are your current branding efforts? How do you enforce the consistency of your branding?
  • Do you currently run radio, television or print ads?
  • Do you currently belong to legal associations, networking groups or have any affiliations?
  • Have you considered marketing to targeted vertical markets (i.e. senior citizens, accident victims, hispanics?)
  • What is your messaging platform and does it effectively speak to what your potential clients want to hear? Will it help them solve their problems?
  • Do you currently advertise on the internet, on websites, or on search engines?
  • Have you considered direct mail?
  • Do you have a PR plan in place?
  • What is your budget to market and brand your law firm or legal office?
Answering these questions can help shape a marketing plan and strategy for your Las Vegas law firm. If you do not have the internal resources, Perkolate can help as well. We have served the Las Vegas community for over 7 years with marketing, web design and graphic design services.
10 Surefire Strategy and Tips for Marketing Your Law Firm
  • Focus on the areas of your practice that are the key revenue generators and choose the most lucrative target market or target client. Disqualify potential clients that are not a great fit.
  • Have a solid, well-thought-out Marketing Plan and execute your marketing efforts through a timeline. As the plan rolls out, be sure to examine the results and refine your campaigns accordingly.
  • Have a strong online presence in the Las Vegas community with your website, online marketing and search engine marketing efforts.
  • Ensure all of your marketing materials have a consistent look and feel, tone and copy writing so your messaging is not diluted.
  • Focus on what sets your law firm apart from competitors.
  • Publicize your pro-bono work when appropriate. The Las Vegas community (and potential clients) respect when you give back to the community.
  • Consider new media and keep ahead of the curve, including social networking and other social medias including creating a professional legal blog.
  • Ensure your presentations are well-written, persuasive and professionally designed.
  • Create outstanding relationships with clients. Strong relationships leads to referrals, serve your client, don’t sell to your client.
  • Identify potential vertical marketing opportunities and run marketing campaigns to test the waters.
